Part of me wants him to win because it would force the collapse of a really corrupt situation that is our government, but on the other hand it would force the collapse of a really corrupt system that happens to be our government...

At least one half of the really corrupt system is so broken right now that it may take years to repair it. The other half is the GOP.

Man, the whole thing is broken. I miss the days of electing former military personnel as presidents and congresspeople. At least they learned what it meant to serve the people at some point, instead of just themselves.

My suggestion to solving the problem of politics is term limits. But I would limit everybody to just one term. The biggest problem as I see it is that the first day a politician gets in office they start working on their reelection.

I was thinking something like this too. “Politician” should not be a career, one term limits would probably too hard to get enacted. I thought something like limit anyone to 12 years total of service in an elected position, no matter what level of government.

Nice. I hadn’t seen that.

A co-worker of mine has a wife that was on the Apprentice a few years ago. (Not actually kidding here.) She has some great/terrible stories that are exactly what you’d expect, but doesn’t want to get involved in the election. She basically has to hide from reporters hitting her up at work every day.

I made a new campaign logo for Trump. I felt the original, sexy logo never got a fair shake, so I started with that. Then, I made a few tweaks to update it to be in line with current events. I feel it really tells the story of his campaign; where it started, the journey it’s gone on, and what the future holds.

True, but at the same time you need people to be in for a while to gain the experience. So really we need to replace half the lot every 5 years, with a 10 year term.

Sadly the corrupt system would be replaced by another corrupt system, probably even more corrupt. The US doesn’t need such heroes as Christie and Giuliani as Reichsministers in charge of so and so.

He’s not as much of an outsider as he claims. Dude has been holding one-on-one meetings with all the same big donors as Romney and McCain. He started doing this towards the middle of the primaries and has continued to do so into the general election. He is no different from any other candidate in that way.

The main reason he is so short on cash compared to other campaigns is that the Koch Brothers have not given him the endorsement of their donor network. That group could potentially equate to over $400M in campaign donations alone. I’m sure many members have donated to trump on their own, but many others have chosen not to due to how Trump has conducted himself over this campaign and beyond.

Trump touts himself as a businessman who makes deals, so you can be sure he was making deals with those donors.

True. But he’s such an ass that he’d be yelling at everyone, finding ways to get them “fired” and such. It would just be a glorious mess. We’ll never find out, though, as we’re going to be stuck with Clinton for the next four years until Ryan decides to run. Or everything goes to hell. More to hell.

There’s a lot of checks and balances in our government. One man can’t walk in and basically change a system that’s been in place for decades.

Kinja'd!!! Audistein > random001

Kinja'd!!!2

I don’t think there would be anything glorious about that mess. As well as doing favors for his donors and trying to support his own business, Trump could do a lot of damage to our foreign policy as well as geopolitics. Something like weakening NATO’s Collective Defence provision, which could be done with a simple speech, could drastically destabilize Eastern Europe. If he sends troops into Syria (which could be done without congressional approval for 60 days) it could start WW3 if we start fighting the Russians. Tariffs could also totally collapse our economy if not implemented correctly. There are a lot of legitimately dangerous issues at stake.

As for Paul Ryan, I don’t think he stands a chance in a national election. He has zero charisma, does not speak particularly well, and has been a very weak leader of the Republican congress. The main reason he got the job as speaker was because the more senior Republicans saw that the job was poison after Boehner got booted for being too moderate and trying to work across the aisle. He might get burned for not pulling his support for trump as well.

If Hillary wins, I don’t see her losing in 2020. Even if she just keeps the status quo, things will get better over the next 4 years. The economy is improving, people are rejoining the workforce, and ISIL is loosing territory. Even if you don’t like her, it’s hard to argue that she’ll screw things up.

All good points, and all correct reasons why he won’t win. I’m just extremely apathetic about the whole thing right now. They’re all just in it for themselves, which is truly not what public service is all about. Clinton is definitely the lesser evil here, no argument can be logically made.

“Here’s John Boehner , the likely speaker if Republicans take the House, offering his plans for Obama’s agenda: “We’re going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”

Interesting how duration has sharply increased in the last 25 years. I heard a great debate on how experience is great, but mental comprehension for most people declines with age, so should judges have a max age to force retirement?
